Karara Mining Ltd was established in 2007 through joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited (www.gindalbie.com.au) and Anshan iron and Steel Group Corporation (www.ansteelgroup.com).
Karara, located 200km east of Geraldton, is the first major magnetite operation in the Mid West and will underpin a substantial, long-life iron ore business with robust economics.
The operation includes construction and operation of a large open pit mine, a processing plant to produce magnetite concentrate and all associated infrastructure.
Karara is a world-class orebody in terms of its size, quality, consistency and extremely low waste-to-ore stripping ratio with the potential to produce +30mtpa for more than 30 years. The first magnetite shipment was made in January 2013.
Karara also incorporates many Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) hematite deposits. The first shipment of DSO was made at the end of March 2011.
Karara Mining is committed to working with its local communitiesto support sustainable development in the Mid West region. Our environmental objective is to maintain the abundance, diversity, geographic distribution and productivity of flora and fauna at species and ecosystem levels. Karara will minimise any impact or potential impact on native flora and vegetation at the Karara minesite and associated infrastructure. Our environmental policy can be found here .
